About the Athenaeum Hotel

One of the first hotels to have electric lights, The Athenaeum is architecturally reminiscent of the elaborate "Saratoga-style" resort hotels of the turn of the century. Ten U.S. Presidents, beginning with Ulysses S. Grant, And most recently, William Clinton have visited Chautauqua. Hundreds of other well-known Chautauqua visitors, have been Athenaeum Hotel guests.

A blend of authentic period furnishings and fixtures, comfortable wicker chairs and settees, romantic lace curtains, scrupulously selected wallpaper and color schemes preserve the Athenaeum's rich historical presence and extend a cordial Victorian-style welcome to our guests.

Chautauqua Institution

Located on beautiful Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York, Chautauqua Institution is host each summer to a vast array of recreation, arts, interfaith and education activities. The Amphitheater stage at Chautauqua Institution has served as a lecture platform to United Stated Presidents, world dignitaries, renowned authors and many others who have helped shape the world we live in.

Chautauqua Institution’s nine week summer season truly holds something for all members of the family.  Make The Athenaeum Hotel your home at Chautauqua this summer.
