Dining Room

The Dining Room. Handsome, formal and elegant -- this was the Victorian dining room.

As a hive of social activity, the dining room was the other room in the house, second only to the parlor, where attention to detail was paramount. Dinner parties and afternoon teas and receptions were the most popular manner of entertaining in an era that found home the setting for numerous genial gatherings. Elaborate tableware and formal dinners comprising several courses required the perfect backdrop. The dining room was a model of genteel taste in decoration, substantial furnishings, and carefully chosen accessories. Deportment in the dining room referred not only to one's behavior but to the manner in which this all-important room was dressed.

The Athenaeum Hotel continues its tradition of operating on the American Plan. This means that the daily room rate includes three meals - full or continental breakfast, grand buffet lunch with a daily sandwich option and a five-course dinner. Sunday Brunch in the Dining Room has been added to our dining pleasures. Guests can enjoy their meals in our bright, cheerful dining room or on our majestic lake front veranda.

To preserve a dinner atmosphere reminiscent of the gentle elegance of the past, we ask that gentlemen wear jackets and ties and the ladies dress in their finest. Casual attire is acceptable for breakfast, lunch and supper. Walk-in guests are welcomed, but reservations are highly recommended at 716-357-4444.
